Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends. That is the answer to my “what’s on your mind” question. Faceless on Facebook got me thinking about cyber profiles. I think it’s sad that you have the ability to remove tags of yourself in pictures and allow only certain photos of you to be published online. This is almost like disowning yourself. Not many cyber profiles are the true people they claim to be. The fact that half of my friends profile pictures are photoshopped could be considered a form of personal rejection. Throughout previous wall posts and photo comments I’ve learned that people are essentially lying. I’m not so sure that even half of the people who commented me on my birthday even cared, if they really did they would have said happy birthday to me before I had an online account. What does that tell you? It tells you that online social networking has not much to do with how people interact in the normal everyday life it is more about popularity.

I partially agree with you when you say that social networking is for popularity. The other half of me thinks that some (not all) peole actuallly do use facebook, myspace, twitter and other social networking sites for its purpose. I use facebook and myspace (very seldom) to talk to people that I see quite a bit (but not on a regular basis), people that I never get the chance to see at all and also people that I have not haerd from or seen in YEARS. What is quite funny though is that I find myself writing people on facebook when I want to tell them something and when I do that I know that within a decent amount of time that person will respond. Now, how crazy is that? Its like a phone servive with voicemail saying: "Leave a message (wall post) and i'll call (write) you back as soon as I can."
ReplyDeleteAbout untagging yourself. I have photos that my roomates have posted before that I had untagged myself in. It was not because I was not trying to show my true self but I LOVE taking pictures BUT not all of them turn out right! If my hair is sticking up one way or not flowing the way I wanted it or maybe even my smile is "not a true representation of me" then I dont like it and I definately dont want it on the net for ANYONE to see especially if I am not satisfied with it so in this case I would want it deleted. Something like a perfectionist type of picture taker :)
sorry....but I keep forgetting to sign my name to these posts.

well I totally agree with the idea that people dont show their true selves on this social networking sites. I know that a lot of people dont use these site for popularity but like they say keep playing with fire u may get burned. People without even noticing start shaping their image and little by little they fall into this big gossip and popularity competition. Not that im against these sites but i think we should not give it the importance that today's generation is.

ReplyDeletePersonally I don't even look at those pictures that people tag other friends in. I think it's much more enjoyable to view the profile pictures instead. I also find Facebook's birthday reminders a useful tool so I can wish one of my friends a "Happy birthday" and not forget. Because your friends do have a choice to write to you, and hopefully the friends that do chose to write to you on you birthday or whenever are genuine.
